Saudi Mayor and Governor Laud Clean-Up Drive by Filipinos in Al-Khobar
AL-KHOBAR – Engineer Fahad Al-Jubair, Mayor of Eastern Province lauded the more than 100 Filipinos for voluntarily conducting a clean-up drive along Corniche in Al-Khobar on March 3.
Al-Jubair gathered the Filipinos two days after the clean-up drive in Dammam Municipal Hall and awarded them with Certificate of Appreciation.
“We thanked the Filipinos. We expect this behavior will reflect for high quality for all the citizens and also other nationalities. We hope to meet you again. That’s why we celebrate today to say thank you”, Al-Jubair said.
The noble deeds of the Filipinos has gone viral on social media in which Prince Saud Bin Naif, Governor of Eastern Province has also took notice of it. The seven Pinoys, who were randomly chosen, met Prince Naif at the Governor’s Palace in Dammam. Prince Naif thanked them and gave them gifts as token of appreciation.
The seven Filipinos are RV Gem Fideles, Albert Guanzon, Dr. Resurrecion Ramos of Bantay at Kasangga ng OFW, Hanna Mosaed Coz, Froilan Portugal and Carlo Buenaventura of AFCSCOM and photographer Ben Pujeda. "Ako’y natutuwa dahil napansin ng mayor pati ng governor ng Eastern Province ang pag-linis namin sa Corniche. Hope it will be a start of a good relation with them", Coz said.
With a theme “Clean and Green”, the Filipinos under the banner of Bantay at Kasangga ng OFWs and AFCSCOM collected numerous bags of garbage like plastic bags, plastic water bottles, soft drink cans, papers and many more and disposed it with the help of two trucks provided by the municipality.
AFCSCOM President Lamberto Pablo thanked everyone who participated in the clean-up drive. Also, he thanked Issam Al-Mulla, manager of Al-Khobar Municipality, for permission to conduct the clean-up drive.
“This is our little way of saying thank you to our host country Saudi Arabia, our second home, for the opportunity it has given to all of us Filipinos to work here”, Pablo added.
The two groups plan to conduct more clean-up drives in the future.
